Hany Mikhail, M.D. Au.D., FAAA
Doctor of Audiology
In 1991, Dr. Hany M. Mikhail took over as the director of Audiology for the clinic. Since then, Dr. Hany has established himself as an elite audiologist in the United States. This credibility is earned from numerous journal articles, papers, and 2 thesis’ published in various mediums of the hearing health care world. Before moving to the United States, Dr. Hany earned his M.D. from Tanta University School of Medicine in Montgomery, Egypt and a master’s degree in otorhinolaryngology from Ain Shams University in Cairo, Egypt. He was invited by the University of Kansas to perform academic research at the university’s medical center in 1983 in vestibular studies and encouraged to finish a second master’s degree in audiology and speech pathology from The University of Central Missouri in 1990. Upon finishing his second master’s degree, he began practicing in Joplin, Missouri as the director of audiology for Area Hearing and Speech Clinic. In 2000, he was a part of the inaugural class to graduate with his doctorate in audiology from Arizona School of Health Sciences. In 2006, Dr. Hany took over as the owner of Area Hearing & Speech Clinic. His current work has focused on adult and geriatric audiology, with emphasis on the latest trends in technology as well as hearing conservation in industrial settings throughout the area.
Dr. Hany lives in Joplin with his wife Donna and their maltipoo Winston. He and his wife are active in their church and community.
Jonathan A. Mikhail, M.S., Au.D., FAAA
Doctor of Audiology
Dr. Jonathan Mikhail is a clinical research audiologist who is from Joplin, Missouri. He graduated with his Master of Science degree in 2015 from The University Of Wisconsin-Stout in Technical and Professional Communication, emphasizing in behavioral methods and in 2018 from Wichita State University with his doctoral degree in audiology. His research, both for his masters and doctorate, has focused on communication abilities and tactics for the hearing impaired of all ages, as well as the amount of communication courses offered in current audiology programs across the nation. His interests in audiology include: hearing aid intervention, aural rehabilitation, pediatric assessments, educational audiology, hearing conservation for musicians, in-ear monitors, and counseling people with hearing difficulties. Currently Dr. Jonathan has returned to The University of Wisconsin-Stout’s Doctor of Education program to complete his studies in educational communication, with his research focusing in communication through age groups.
Dr. Jonathan lives in Joplin with his wife Lindsay and their two poodles Telly and Bigsby. He and his family are die-hard Chicago Cubs and Sporting Kansas City fans, and in his spare time enjoys going to different sporting events. He looks forward to serving you at Area Hearing and Speech Clinic.
Ashley Neely, M.S., CCC-SLP
Speech Language Pathologist
Ashley Neely, M.S., CCC-SLP, is a native of Joplin, MO. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders as well as her Master’s degree in Speech and Language Pathology from the University of Arkansas. Ashley holds her Certificate in Clinical Competence from the American Speech and Hearing Association and is licensed to practice in Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma. Between 2015 and 2018, Ashley worked in the Seneca R-7 School District. During her tenure, she evaluated and treated students from pre-school through high school age. Her expertise includes those with Articulation/Phonological Disorders, Expressive/Receptive Language Impairments, and Autism Spectrum Disorders. She also has experience working with, Developmental Delays, Learning Disabilities, Intellectual Disabilities, Down Syndrome, Fluency Disorders, Hearing Impairments, AAC devices, Traumatic Brain Injury, and Tongue Thrusts.
Ashley is happily married to her husband, Chase. They have two energetic dogs, Cooper and Sammy. During their leisure time, they love to volunteer at their church, travel, play golf, watch movies, and cheer on their Razorbacks. GO HOGS! She is excited for the opportunity to work with you and/or your family to help provide the therapy that you deserve to improve your communication skills.
Sam Christensen, Au.A, Student Clinician
Sam Christensen joined the Area Hearing and Speech Clinic team in 2013 as our in house technician. Sam has received training from multiple hearing aid manufacturers for mechanical and technological support. He is currently a student clinician in the process of receiving his Board Certified-Hearing Instrument Specialist license for both Missouri and Kansas through Ozark Technical College. Because of this, the clinic is able to offer repairs for every make and model of hearing aid, in-ear monitor, or custom device no matter the manufacturer.
Currently, Sam lives in Carthage, Missouri with his wife Alyvia and his daughter Codie. He is an avid carpenter and in his spare time enjoys working with his hands.
